Coastal Plain (Collins, ; Palmer and Brann, ; Hodgkinson et al., ). Prior to this study, only one Paleocene pteropod species was known from the Gulf Coastal Plain (Janssen, ); none were known from Paleocene or Eocene of the con-tiguous Atlantic Coastal Plain, which contains the New Jersey Coastal Plain. Here, we document that. Coastal Plain Rock Units (Stratigraphic Chart) The geology of Delaware includes parts of two geologic provinces: the Appalachian Piedmont Province and the Atlantic Coastal Plain Province. The Piedmont occurs in the hilly northernmost part of the state and is composed of crystalline metamorphic and igneous rocks.
Claiborne group. Age is middle Eocene. Recognized in Gulf Coastal Plain from Georgia to southern Texas. In (Amer. Jour. Sci., 3rd ser., v. 47, p. ) G.D. Harris included the †Buhrstone (Tallahatta formation) in his Lower Claiborne stage, but other writers continued for several years to exclude it from Claiborne group. Eocene age sediments along the northern Gulf of Mexico, especially in Mississippi and Texas, contain some very well preserved specimens of sepioid cephalopods (relatives of cuttlefish). These are often considered to be an oddity, because they produced a skeleton with a tooth-like projection at the end that has a minor resemblance to the jaw.

It is the second epoch of the Paleogene Period in the modern Cenozoic name Eocene comes from the Ancient Greek ἠώς (ēṓs, "dawn") and καινός (kainós, "new") and refers to the "dawn" of modern ('new') fauna that.
The Claiborne Group of Central Texas: A Record of Middle Eocene Marine and Coastal Plain Deposition. David K. Davies (1), Frank G. Ethridge (2) ABSTRACT. Sediments of the Claiborne Group in central Texas were deposited in a variety of nearshore. The Main Glauconite Bed (MGB) is a pelleted greensand located at Stone City Bluff on the south bank of the Brazos River in Burleson County, Texas.
It was deposited during the Middle Eocene regional transgression on the Texas Gulf Coastal Plain.
